Thank you for bringing your student(s) to school early! It has been great to get to know all of th students one-on-one.  They are all working so hard & we are excited to see all of you at open house on the 31st :)

I hope everyone is having a great summer.  I am currently in AZ visiting my brother & we just came back from the Grand Canyon! What a beautiful place, and if you ever get a chance visit Page, AZ., Lake Powell is an amazing place.

September is right around the corner and starting Kindergarten is a very exciting event.  These are some areas and skills your child can work on this summer to prepare for Kindergarten. 

 *  Writing their first and last name

 *  Know the difference between Hot and Cold Lunch

*  Upper and lowercase letter recognition

*  Basic phonemic awareness

          * rhyming

          * letter sounds

*  Color recognition

*  Shape recognition

*  Counting

*  Number recognition (0-20)

*  Independence Skills (Shoe Tying, zippering their coat, buttoning)

Can you believe it!  We only have 20 days left in Kindergarten.  This year has been so much fun with all of your students!  We still have so much to do, but I wanted to thank all of you for all of your hard work.  It is wonderful to watch all of your children grow so fast, and they all have learned so much.  Enjoy the last days of Kindergarten, and we will see all of you at Graduation on June 10th at 2:30pm

I have a few….ok it’s a bit much but lots and lots of new information.  Please read through this email to catch up on Kindergarten News.

1. Grandparent’s Day: More information will be coming out but please keep the following date in mind for Grandparent’s day where we invite our Grandparents or Special Person to our classroom.
1. KB- Thursday, May 6th (only Kindergarten)
2. KA- Friday, May 7th (whole school
   
2. Thursday, April 29th Assembly:All kindergarteners are welcome to this assembly. If you are KA please have your child come down to the room by 9:00am.  We will be presenting our Character education for the month of April.
   
3. Books Orders:New Book orders are due Thursday, April 29th. You may order online or bring your orders to the classroom J
   
4. Water Bottles:If you child wants to bring a water bottle to school they are more than welcome to bring a water bottle to set on their desk for the day.
   
5. Interviews for April’s Character Education: Students can interview adults about their career and when they return the interview form they will get their name into a drawing J
   
6. Money to the classIf you brought money at the beginning of the year (it was on our new supply list).  Please let me know by Thursday, April 29th  if you would like your coins returned to you. I will assume you would like to donate your coins to Kindergarten for our math materials is I do not get an email back.
   
7. School Board Elections: The Beacon Academy school board is currently seeking interested candidates to run for the board. If you have questions  contact Christina Holmes at cholmes@beaconacademy.com. The application deadline is April 16th at 4pm.

8. End of the year picnic Thursday, May 27th
9. Board Applications due to Christina in the school office by 4pm; April 16th
10. Kindergarten Round-Up: April 19th and 22nd; 6:00-7:30 p.m.
11. Beacon Carnival: Friday, April 23rd; 6:00-8:30 p.m.

I am happy to announce our first chance to order books through Scholastic Book Club.  Our Book first order is Due March 16th. You may order online or send in your order forms.

Thank you for all your donations to Pennies for Patients!!!! We are at $58.80 so far!!! If Kindergarten is #1 in the school…both classes get an ice cream party and a non-uniform day.  Ms. Wold said she would give both Kindergarten classes a day with playing the Wii with educational games at choice time if we are #1.  We can do it!!!

 

Thank you parents for all you help with our Valentine’s Day Parties!  We had so much fun showing all of our love. 

 

Pajama Day: We are celebrating "I Love to Read Month" with a PJ Day.

Please wear your pajamas on the following day:

KB- Thursday, Feb. 18th (Just Kindergarten)

KA- Friday, Feb. 19th (All of Beacon Academy)

 

100th Day Collection:

I will be sending home a letter with a plastic bag this week.  Please help your child make a 100th Day collection of ONE item.  The collection must fit in the bag.  Examples:  100 Pennies, 100 toy cars, 100 pieces of popcorn, or 100 buttons. Please return the collection to school by Tuesday, Feb. 23rd.

Thank you to all of those wonderful gifts and hugs by your students before and after winter break.  Thank you again for all that your family does.
